About Old Red Mule & Horsing Around the Ranch
We, Paul and Ollie Phinizy, are keepers of equine and have been "horsing around the ranch" for over 25 years. We have two small horse properties in Arizona, Tucson and Alpine up in the White Mountains.
We are retired, not really, with many hobbies and for some reason we still like to work, work, work on things. We diddle here and there. Household projects, remodeling, adding on, barn building, shop and studio work. For play we ride our horses and mules in the desert, Apache-Sitgreaves forest and in the Blue Wilderness. It has really been an adventure with all of the things we have seen and done.
Paul is also a semi-retired Elk guide, scouts for game and does some surveys for the Forest Department.
Before I forget, who is Old Red? Well, he was the sweetest kindest anyone can ride sort of old mule we found at an auction we were attending. He seemed really sad. The announcer said he was retired from the Grand Canyon string recently and needing a new home. He was ours for the next 18 years. He was the best mule in the world for us, you could feel his pride when he stepped out on a trail. He knew his stuff. So yes, he is Old Red. The original art of our retail items logo hangs in our living room for many, many years now and he is sorrelly missed.
